Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work more efficiently and provide information to website owners.

Cookies allow websites to recognize your device, remember your preferences, and improve your browsing experience. They can be "session cookies" (deleted when you close your browser) or "persistent cookies" (remain on your device until deleted or expired).

2. How Zupo Uses Cookies

Zupo uses essential cookies only to provide core functionality and keep you signed in to your account. We do not currently use analytics, advertising, or marketing cookies.

Our cookie usage is minimal and focused solely on enabling the Service to function properly. Since we only use essential cookies that are strictly necessary for the Service, we do not require your explicit consent under GDPR and other privacy regulations.

3. Types of Cookies We Use

3.1 Essential Cookies (Required)

These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as logging in or filling out forms.

Authentication Cookies (Supabase)

  • Purpose: Maintain your logged-in session and authenticate API requests
  • Provider: Supabase (our authentication service)
  • Cookie names: sb-access-token, sb-refresh-token
  • Duration: Session cookies (deleted when you log out or close browser)
  • Domain: .zupo.com and .supabase.co
  • Type: First-party and third-party (Supabase)

3.2 Analytics Cookies (Not Currently Used)

We do not currently use analytics cookies. If we decide to implement website analytics in the future, we will update this policy and provide you with options to opt-out.

3.3 Marketing Cookies (Not Currently Used)

We do not use marketing, advertising, or tracking cookies from third-party services like Google Ads, Facebook Pixel, or similar platforms.

4. Local Storage

In addition to cookies, we may use browser local storage to save your preferences and settings. This includes:

  • Cookie consent status: Remembers that you've acknowledged our cookie notice
  • Theme preferences: Saves your UI preferences (if applicable)
  • Session data: Temporary data to improve performance

Local storage data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly perform an action that requires it (e.g., saving settings).

5. Third-Party Cookies

When you use Zupo, third-party services we integrate with may set their own cookies:

5.1 Supabase Authentication

Supabase, our authentication and database provider, uses cookies to manage your login session. These are essential for the Service to function. Supabase's privacy practices are governed by their own privacy policy. Learn more: Supabase Privacy Policy

5.2 Future Third-Party Services

If we integrate additional third-party services in the future (e.g., payment processors, analytics tools), we will update this Cookie Policy and provide transparency about what cookies are used and for what purpose.

6. Why Essential Cookies Don't Require Consent

Under GDPR and ePrivacy Directive, essential cookies that are strictly necessary for providing a service explicitly requested by the user do not require consent. This exemption applies to our authentication cookies because:

  • They are necessary for you to log in and use your account
  • Without them, the Service cannot function as intended
  • They do not track you across different websites
  • They are not used for marketing or analytics purposes

This is why we can use these cookies without showing a cookie consent banner that blocks functionality.

7. How to Control and Delete Cookies

You have the right to control cookies on your device. However, please note that disabling essential cookies will prevent you from using certain features of the Service, such as logging in.

7.1 Browser Settings

Most browsers allow you to:

  • View and delete cookies
  • Block third-party cookies
  • Block cookies from specific websites
  • Block all cookies (not recommended for Zupo)
  • Delete all cookies when you close the browser

7.2 Browser-Specific Instructions

Google Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data

Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data

Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data

Microsoft Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies

7.3 Impact of Disabling Cookies

If you disable or delete our essential cookies, you will not be able to:

  • Stay logged in to your account
  • Access your dashboard and deals
  • Save your preferences and settings

8. Do Not Track (DNT) Signals

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) setting. Since we do not use tracking or advertising cookies, DNT signals do not affect your experience on Zupo. We respect your privacy regardless of DNT settings.

9. Updates to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make changes:

  • We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page
  • We will notify you via email if we start using non-essential cookies
  • We will provide you with opt-out options for non-essential cookies

We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about our cookie usage.
